In each country you can see different styles of education. Af first I will explain you how English (and Welsh – it’s the same type) one is working at all.

Education in England and Wales: 93% state schools, 7% private schools. In the UK, private secondary schools are ofter called ‘public’ schools!

State system: Compulsory education ages 5 – 16. Primary school (5 – 11); secondary school (11 – 16); optional ‘sixth form’ (16 – 18). State secondary schools are mainly comprehensive schools (mixed ability) with some grammar schools (selective).

Main exams: GCSE (school-leaving exams) at 16; ‘A’ or ’A/S” levels (university entrance exams) at 18.

Universities ask for certain ‘A’ level grades. Successful students can choose which university to go to. The goverment gives most students interestfree loans which they have to pay back when they start earning money.

In Oxford City you can see al types of schools: pulbic, privatas, universities. There is all you need. However if you are not going to stay there but you are planning to go there for vacation and you do not speak English fluently you can take a English course in one of English schools eg.: British Study Centres Arrow, Eckersley School of English Arrow, Homelingua Arrow.

But… the Oxford schools we are interested in are of course:
The Dragon School (the picture of the school you can see at the top of the page)
The Headington School
