Dumbledore: Effect in book 7

*This article will take place in two parts. Part 1 will be discussing Dumbledore’s role in book 7 if indeed his is dead. Part 2 will discuss his role if in fact he is still alive. This article will not discuss the ‘hows’ or ‘whys’ about his death, merely what effect he will have in book 7*

Part 1: Dumbledore is dead

You’d think if someone was dead, they would have little effect in other people’s lives from that point on. In the world of Harry Potter however, we know that is not the case. Therefore, if Albus Dumbledore is dead, it is very unlikely that he will no longer be apart of Harry’s mission.

But how, then, will he assist Harry? It is very likely that Dumbledore’s death is similar to that of Obi-Wan Kenobi. Obi-Wan died so as to be more helpful to Luke, who was the hope of the Jedi’s. It is not difficult to believe that Dumbledore too, died so as to be more help to Harry, who is the hope of the wizarding world. Dumbledore can watch over Harry and give him direction.

It is also possible that Dumbledore felt Harry was relying on him too much, and Harry needed to find the Horcruxes and destroy Voldemort alone. The only way Dumbledore would be able to send Harry out on his own, was to take his own life.

In book 7, if Dumbledore is indeed dead, I see his portrait in the headmaster’s office being highly significant. I expect there will be another portrait of Dumbledore placed somewhere else, where he will be in constant communication with Harry and be able to provide him with direction if Harry needs it.

Part 2: Dumbledore is alive

If Dumbledore is alive, I believe he will have less effect in book 7 than if he was dead. Dumbledore will most likely remain hidden until Harry has defeated Voldemort or vice-versa. Dumbledore most likely wishes Harry to believe he is gone so Harry will fulfil the prophecy and defeat Voldemort alone.

His portrait will probably act the same way I suggested in part 1, as a way of Harry to receive guidance when he needs it. Dumbledore would never leave Harry all alone so I’m sure he made sure he would have a portrait of himself so Harry would still have a form of contact with him.

My Theory

I personally believe that Dumbledore is alive and has hidden himself so Harry will destroy Voldemort alone (with a little help from Ron and Hermione). I also believe that Dumbledore will have a way of keeping watch over Harry so if it looks like Harry is going to lose against Voldemort, Dumbledore will be able to come to the rescue. Dumbledore would never put Harry in any danger, so I dont believe he would go into hiding without leaving some sort of protection for Harry.
