Draco: Effect in book 7

As we learned in book 6, Draco is more than just another schoolyard bully. We always knew his father was a Death Eater, but in book 6 Draco becomes one himself and learns it’s not as enjoyable as he originally thought. As book 6 concluded, Draco ran away with Snape. Where he went is anyone’s guess.

What effect, if any, will Draco have in book 6? That’s what I’m here to discuss.

The first thing we have to look at is which side Draco is really on. On the outside, it appears as though he is a follower of Voldemort. But as we know, he doesn’t enjoy working for Voldemort and only does it out of fear for the safety of himself and his family. Given the opportunity, would he really try and kill Harry or would he spare him in the hope that Voldemort would be over-thrown.

And what about where he went with Snape? With all this speculation over whether Snape is good or evil, we are really left with two possibilities. The first is that he indeed went back to Voldemort, now that his job was done. The other possibility is that Snape took Draco into hiding, due to Snape being afraid that if Voldemort found out Draco hadn’t been the one that killed Dumbledore, Draco’s life would be at risk. If possibility two is correct, it is most likely that both Snape and Draco are not evil.

In general, what will Draco’s effect be in book 7? Whether good or evil, there is no doubt that Draco will be a major character in the final book of the series. It is likely that Draco will be one of the most important factors in whether Harry does or does not complete his quest, and defeats Lord Voldemort.

My theory:

I think that for most part of book 7, Draco will remain a servant of Voldemort against his own wishes. Haryy will then encounter Draco in his quest to find and destory Voldemort and the two of them will battle. Draco will forfeit the battle and will allow Harry to continue his quest, in the hope that Harry will be able to destroy Voldemort and free Draco from his grasp. At this point Draco will either flee, or remain Voldemort’s servant acting as a double agent and trying to help out Harry. I think this will forever banish the lines of hatred between Harry and Draco, whatever the outcome of Harry’s battle with Voldemort may be.
