Pettigrew: Effect in book 7

Little Peter Pettigrew. He almost completely disappeared in book 6, but there is no doubt there’s plenty more to come from this mysterious character.

Since reviving Voldemort in book 4, Pettigrew hasn’t been a major player in the plot. He was nowhere to be seen in book 5, and in book 6 the only time we saw him was serving Snape at Snape’s own home. Pushed aside by his master, could Pettigrew be more important than Voldemort thinks?

Think back to book 3, when Dumbledore told Harry that he would not regret saving Pettigrew’s life as now Pettigrew had a debt to Harry. Though we don’t know any consequences about the debt, the debt alone seems to suggest that Pettigrew will need to assist Harry in some way in the fight against Voldemort whether he likes it or not.

But now the question needs to be asked, how will Pettigrew repay Harry? Will it be something major like revealing a horcrux or Voldemort’s whereabouts, or will it be something minor like stalling a Death Eater while Harry escapes? Either way, Pettigrew could be crucial to Harry’s quest.

But lets look at it from the other end of the spectrum. What if Pettigrew does nothing to repay Harry? As I already stated, we don’t know the consequences of Pettigrew’s debt and maybe Pettigrew won’t have to repay Harry at all. Assuming Pettigrew remains on Voldemort’s side, will he be a hero or will he be a burden. He doesn’t seem like a particularly powerful wizard, nor does he seem intelligent. Does he have something to offer besides what we’ve already seen?

My theory:

I don’t think Pettigrew will play a major role in book 7 but I believe his debt to Harry will be highly important whether positive or negative. To me, Pettigrew seems like a character likely to die and it is my belief that Pettigrew will repay Harry by giving up his life to save Harry’s. Since he owes Harry for saving his life, it’s not a long shot to suggest he now has to give up that life to the person who saved him. His debt- dying for Harry.
