Romance

Romance in Harry Potter is an intricate thing. The most prominent of relationships is that of Hermione, played by Emma, and Ron, played by Rupert Grint in the movies. These two have been in the midst of a love-hate relationship throughout the series. This romance flourished in the fifth, sixth and fourth novels. Ron displays blatant aggression towards Victor Krum when he attends the Yule ball with Hermione in fourth year and clearly is jealous. In fifth year, Ron and Hermione draw closer together, becoming closer friends, and most major bickering stops. In sixth year, their affection for each other is out in the open. It is clear when Ron is outraged and furious at Hermione and Krum upon learning from Ginny that they kissed. He then starts dating Lavender. Hermione s feelings are showcased in that she becomes furious, depressed and starts crying when she sees them (Ron and Lavender kiss). They were going to attend the Christmas party together, until these events, and Hermione attends with Cormac Mclaggen in a sucessful attempt to provoke Ron s jealousy. Hermione did, at one time fancy Viktor Crum, the international Quidditch player, however this can be looked upon as the sort of crush most girls of her age would show towards sports heroes, Ron has always been the one she really loved.

People have touched upon the subject of a Harry/Hermione relationship, however this opinion is rather invalidated by Harry s growing romance with Ron s sister Ginny. Harry attends the same
Christmas party with Luna “Looney” Lovegood, however he stresses that this is only as a friend, and indeed, they spend more time apart, then together at the event itself. At the end of the sixth novel, Harry informs Ginny that they have to stop seeing each other for her own safety, however, I can conclude that Ginny will clearly help Ron and Hermione help Harry in the fight against Voldemort, and I think their romance won t be put to rest so easily.

One related inferrence that one can make is that Ginny will die, this is not only a guess, but supported by the fact that Ginny was a person in myth who died on her wedding day. Is this significant, one of many clues hidden by Rowling behind names from latin root, or simply a coincidenc? Is it chance, or alluding to the future of Harry s love life?
