Peter Pettigrew... a warrior or traitor?

Peter Pettigrew… a warrior or traitor?

He was a very short man, hardly taller than Harry and Hermione. His thin, colourless hair was unkept and there was a large bald patch on the top. He had the shrunken appearance of a plump man who had lost a lot of weight in a short time. His skin looked grubby, almost like Scabbers fur, and something about the rat lingered around his pointed nose, his very small, watery eyes.

It is now time for me to write my very first article here in Emma Watson Empire. Currently, I am reading Harry Potter and the Prisoner Azkaban (English Version), and I am reading the chapter where Rowling unveils the truth about Harry’s parents’ murder. Well, we all know that Peter Pettigrew is the traitor, right.
For almost 12 years, Peter was known as the brave and loyal friend of the other three marauders, James, Sirius and Lupin. As a matter of fact, he has been rewarded an Order of Merlin, which was received by his mother on his behalf, for the well planned murder directed by himself. (well, he has used his mind in trying to find how to escape Sirius’ revenge).
Peter means rock; reliable. As the traitor of his close friends, Peter Pettigrew has not exactly lived up to his name but the story’s not done yet. He may be a big part of Harry’s chance to survive Voldemort. Peter could play a pivotal role against Voldemort. He owes his life to Harry Potter because Harry intervened to save Peter’s life, encouraging Lupin and Sirius not to take justice into their own hands. In the third book, Dumbledore (bless him), told Harry that Pettigrew will never forget the mercy that Harry bestowed upon him (Peter). He owes his life to Harry Potter
I know that some of you may react regarding this matter ( you havent forgiven him yet for what he has done), but let us take a step closer to the rat we know as Peter Pettigrew.
Pettigrew is an unregistered Animagus who can turn into a rat, Peter Pettigrew is ratlike even as a human with a squeaky voice, small eyes and a sharp nose. He is short, balding, and in more comfortable times, fat. Peter sacrificed his right hand to renew Voldemort’s body, and bears a silver hand in replacement from his Master.
As a student, he was overshadowed by the formidable figures of James, Sirius and Lupin. James being a good quidditch plyer, Sirius being popular and Lupin being a prefect, Peter has found the best students that is perfect to be with. In Snape’s memory, he has adored the three of them. His abilities are only inferior compared to the other three.
After graduating, the four marauder’s joined the Order of the Phoenix, a secret organization, spearheaded by Albus Dumbledore, whose primary aim is to defeat Voldemort and his supporters, the death eaters. As the orders’ numbers diminished, Pettigrew secretly joined the dark lord’s group, and plays as a double agent. He has fed the death eaters about the orders’ whereabouts. His action regarding this matter directly points for his love for having connections to those that are powerful.
Later, the prophecy was told, putting the Potters’ life in peril. To save their lives, they have undergone the fidelius chrm, a highly advanced magic that requires a living soul as the secret keeper. Obviously, Sirius would have been the Secret keeper. But thinking that it is more safe, sirius asked James to assign Peter as the keeper.
Peter was then the only one who could and would reveal the Potters’ location. Though this was the first time in his life he stood out, he still owed his powerful knowledge to James and Sirius. His chance to give Voldemort what he wanted was pure luck, but when Voldemort’s attack on Harry backfired, Peter’s escape was ingenious. He made sure witnesses were present when he accused Sirius of betraying Lily and James, then secretly sliced off his finger, used a wand to blow a crater in the street that killed twelve Muggles, and ran as a rat into the sewers. Thus he was hailed as a hero by the Ministry of Magic and the only one who could destroy his image was imprisoned in his place.
After this incident, he has endeared himself as a pet rat (scabbers) to the third of the Weasley’s siblings, Percy, and was passed to Ron’s care. When the infamous prisoner of Azkaban has escaped, Pettigrew’s feeling of security vanished (more likely, evaporated). Peter was found later by his “old friends” Sirius and Lupin. They revealed Peter Pettigrew to Harry, Ron and Hermione, and left him no choice but to confess his treachery and face revenge. Harry has forgiven him, so that he can prove his godfather’s innocence.
And you know what happens next. He has escaped and helped Voldemort regain his power by feeding him milk from an enormous snake to strengthen his form; helping him free Barty Crouch Jr., and capture Mad-Eye Moody; and controlling Barty Crouch, Sr. under the Imperius Curse.
For a simpering servant like him, it takes a lot of knowledge to perform the things that he has done just to help his master. Thanks to James, Lupin and Sirius, Pettigrew has gained the guts to do one hell of magic. Well, I am not telling that It is their (James, Lupin nd Sirius) fault that they have a VERY Trustworthy(?) (unthrustworthy) and VERY Loyal (?) (more likely demeunic).
As for Dumbledore’s statement about Peter’s debt to Harry, I wish that it will somehow come true. Pettigrew mybe a traitor, but let us not forget the fact that HE was in the GRYFFINDOR house. Supposedly, gryffindor students are brave and courageous. Well, maybe, Wormtail can gather the guts and be brave enough to help Harry fight Voldemort.
You might belong in Gryffindor,
By Gryffindor, the bravest were
There are possibilities that Peter can somehow be a true hero, and be an asset for Harry and his friends.
It’s not clear what Peter has been up to since, although there’s little question he is serving Voldemort. Some believe he’ll use his silver hand to kill Lupin, since silver is deadly to werewolves. OR Peter could play a pivotal role against Voldemort. He owes his life to Harry Potter. When he bound Harry to the gravestone, he couldn’t look at him and was unnecessarily rough, as if he were trying to distance himself from the present. The “avid anticipation” he felt watching Snape tormented is long gone now as he witnesses Voldemort’s crimes. Peter would probably return to the other side if someone were to invite him back but why would anyone in the Order of the Phoenix have any use for fat little Peter Pettigrew?
