Wanted: Sirius Black…dead or alive?
Sirius was lounging in his chair at his ease, tilting it back on two legs. He was very good-looking; his dark hair fell into his eyes with a sort of casual elegance neither Janes’s nor Harry’s could ever have achieved, and a girl sitting behind him was eyeing him hopefully, though he didn’t seem to have noticed.
Hi to all of you. Here I am once again to write an article for one of our most beloved HP character, Sirius Black. Actually, my friend recommended me to write an article about him. In the fifth installment of the bestseller Harry potter, the book ended with sadness due to the death of Harry’s godfather, Sirius.
This article is a tribute to Sirius’ bravery and courageousnes that has enlightened every HP fan all over the world. Well, some people (and so am I) did not believe that Sirius is dead, so let us discuss it.
Sirius came from a family of VERY proud purebloods, making him a distant relatives of the Malfoys, the Lestranges, Notts, and others. Eventhough he came from a respected wizarding family, he never boast of his ancestry.
He was born in his family’s house namely, ”Noble and Most Ancient House of Black” were he lived with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Black, and his brother, Rgulus who became a death eater. HIs family are all purebloods, even having ”toujours pur” (“always pure”) as their family motto.
When he arrived at Hogwarts, he is a sort of arrogant, naughty and irresponsible, but we can not deny that he is exceptionally great in doing magic. but it was a shock when he was not sorted to slytherin, where obviously almost all purebloods are being sorted into. Maybe, the sorting hat has seen something in Sirius that makes him a part of the gryffindor house.
He became friends with James Potter, another pureblood that like him, was sorted to gryffindor. James is equally gifted and good. Later, these two was joined with Remus Lupin, a werewolf (but a friendly one) and Peter Pettigrew, the traitor. The four dubbed themselves “The Marauders” and set about having as much fun and breaking as many rules as possible, which they did with gusto. Sirius and James also managed to maintain a position as the most gifted students in the school despite their lack of dedication, which is an indication of how talented they really were.
They enjoyed their high school life in Hogwarts, making pranks and spending time in detentions. Their bond became strong when they spend their time guarding Remus once a month at the whomping willow where he becomes a werewolf. Padfoot, Prongs and Wormtail learned to transform theirselves into their animagus form. Sirius transformed to a big black dog, James into a stag and pettigrew into a rat.This transformation proved that they are exceptional (except for less talented Wormtail) and their abilities are natural.
Throughout their school years and their repeated success at breaking rules and getting away with it, Sirius lost little of his arrogance and was also quickly growing up to be exceptionally handsome in a windswept sort of way. . The one thing he did lose, however, was his pureblood fervor, and through mixing with a variety of students from different backgrounds, from purebloods, halfbloods, blood traitors to mudbloods, he became thoroughly disenchanted with his family’s elitist attitude. Finally, around the age of sixteen, he officially rebelled against his upbringing and was disowned by his parents, moving in with James’ parents, who treated him as a second son. It was around this time that Sirius finally calmed down a little and swapped his trademark arrogance for charismatic confidence, which probably only went further to increase his popularity among the female half of the school.
His hate for purebloods increased when he met Severus Snape, a pureblood enthusiasts, but is a true halfblood, having a muggle father. Also, Sirius finds some of the muggles to be kind, like Lily Evans, his best friend’s crush.
When they finished their school years, the four of them decided to join the Order of the Phoenix. At that time, Voldemort has gained a lot of power and servants, making him unbeatable if only a few are going to fight. This act of joining the order proves Sirius’ rejection of pureblood’s superiority, because Voldemort’s supporters are mostly purebloods.
After two years, the members of the order realized that someone is passing information about the Order’s whereabouts to the death eaters. Obviously, Sirius is the suspect, because of his background. Nevertheless, James trusted him and he made him their secret keeper when they have to undergo the fidelius charm.
In attempt at a double bluff, Sirius persuaded James to use Pettigrew instead. Wormtail took advantage with the oppurtunity that James and Sirius gave him. He id the only one who could and would tell the Potter’s whereabouts.
Then, Voldemort rushed to Godric hollow abd killed James and Lily and only Harry survived. Sirius is the only alive person that can tell the truth about the murder. To take revenge of Pettigrew’s traitory, he tracked down Peter. But again. he was outwitted by the rat. Peter blew a street with lots of muggles, sliced his hands and shouted about Sirius’ treachery. Sirius was arrested and spend 12 years in Azkaban, the wizarding prison. He was incarcerated because of the sin that he wouldn’t even try to do.
Sirius survived Azkaban without going mad due to the knowledge that he was innocent and finally escaped by using his ability as an Animagus, which only two other living people knew about. He was finally moved to attempt his escape by a chance meeting with Cornelius Fudge, who was visiting the prison on Ministry of Magic business. Fudge let Black look at his copy of the Daily Prophet, and on the front cover was a picture of the Weasley family, complete with Scabbers the rat. Having spent so long in the company of his former friend in his Animagus form, Sirius knew at once who it really was: not Scabbers, but Peter Pettigrew. He was still alive and the missing toe on his front right paw showed just how he had done it.
Again, Sirius tried to track down Peter, who had infact spend the 12 years of his life as Percy’s and Ron’s pet. He went to Hogwarts not knowing that the ministry of magic has secured the place by assigning dementors, very creepy and scary creatures to rake over. Nevetheless, he has reestablished his friendship with remud lupin, who he has suspected as the death eaters’ spy, and gained Harry’s trust. But bad luck has befallen him after Lupin transformed into a werewolf.
Only Harry and Hermione can save Sirius’ life. After a well performed Patronus charm by Harry, he has revived Sirius’ life. But, the ministry has caught Black, and there id no way to prove hid innocence due to the escape of Wormtail.
Harry traveled through time uding Hermione’s time turner, which she has been using for the whole year. They saved Blacl and Buckbeak.
Although he was hiding, Sirius rejoined the Order after Dumbledore reestablished it due to Voldemort’s regain of power.
Suring the final battle of the dearh eaters and the order, Sirius was struck by Bellatrix’s spell and fell into the world of the dead.
“Only one pair was still battling, apparently unaware of the new arrival. Harry saw sirius duck Bellatrix’s jet of red light: he was laughing at her.
‘Come on, you can do better than that!’ he yelled, his voice echoing around the cavernous room.
The second jet of light hit him squarely on the chest.
The laughter had not quite died from his face, but his eyes widened in shock.”
– ‘ It seemed to take sirius an age to fall: his body curved in a graceful arc as he sank backwards through the ragged veil hanging from the arch.
Harry saw the look of mingled fear and surprise on his godfather’s wasted, once-handsome face as he fell through the ancient doorway and disappeared behind the veil, which fluttered for a moment as though in a high wind, then fell back into place.’
Reaction
I don’ know if falling in the world of the dead will make you dead nor will make you alive. But in that scene Lupin told Harry that Sirius was gone and will never come back.
But some part of him [Harry] realised, even as he fought to break free from Lupin, that sirius had never kept him waiting before… sirius had risked everything, always, to see Harry, to help him… if sirius was not reappearing out of that archway when Harry was yelling for him as though his life depended on it, the only possible explanation was that he could not come back… that he really was –“
Sirius has been a big part of Harry’s life. After being orphaned when Voldemort killed his parents, Sirius id the next persob who he knew loved him. I think that Sirius’ death has a great impact on the over all story, because Harry is now bot fighting because he was destined to, but because he wants to give justice to the innocent, especially his godfather. After knowing the sacrifices and experiences that Sirius has gone through, it is very disapponting if it will just and in that kind of ending.
Rowling used Sirius’ death as an instrument that will make Harry strong and beat all odds. I think that it is still a 50-50 possibility whether he will come back. Sirius’ last will and testament and the passing of 12 grimmauld place are evidences that he might not, but also, Sirius’ dead body has not resurfaced yet.
If ever Rowling bring back Sirius, I promise that i will smash my cellphone.
