Emma Watson
In the Harry Potter movies, Emma Watson plays Hermione Granger, a crafty, level headed, wand wielding witch – but in real life Emma Watson says she is very different to her character and is much more of a girly-girl. Here is an insight into Emma’s life, both on the set of Harry Potter movies and beyond…

Describe your average day
If I’m not filming then I’m getting tutored. I get picked up, come to set – the time varies depending on where we are and what we are doing – I go into costume, hair and make-up, and then we go straight to set, tutoring, or art or dancing.
Is that school uniform a pain to wear?
In Scotland, it felt like nothing, but in London, it was really hot to wear.
The look of the characters slightly changed in the third film – what did you think about that?
It’s brilliant. The first two films I was wearing tartan skirts, woolly jumpers, and tight school shoes, and now I’ve got jeans. She definitely couldn’t do all the swinging around she does now in a skirt.
Do you ever feel Hermione is creeping into your own personality?
Sometimes, I come out with lines from the film. Apart from that, I’m okay.
How different are you than Hermione?
Quite different, in that I am quite a girly-girl. I like shopping, I like hanging out with my friends, in a way that Hermione doesn’t. I don’tspend that much time on homework.
What is the toughest element of making the Harry Potter films?
The long hours, long days and being away from friends and family.
What type of scenes do you like doing best?
The stunts are good fun, and make for a bit of a change, definitely. I don’t midn being swung around. I really enjoy the acting as well.
Do you have a favourite sequence?
I had great fun punching Malfoy. I demanded 36 takes!
When you look back at auditioning for the first Harry Potter film, how do you feel?
It feels like a long time ago. A lot has happened since then, quite a bit has changed, I’ve changed and I am very, very glad it all happened.
Do you enjoy being famous?
Not always, it’s flattering though.
What kind of fan letters do you get?
Requests for autographs, questions on how I got into these films, and some of them want to know about me in general.
How do you feel about doing all these interviews?
I love it. I’ve been to some amazing places – Chicago, Los Angeles, New York. I had never been to America before. I got to go into helicopter and I met some amazing people. It’s been absolutely amazing.
